Action Kids Camp was established in 2016 with the aim of introducing tennis to children from underserved communities. Since its inception, the camp has served over 100 children aged 5-10, many of whom have cited it as a highlight of their summer activities. The camp provides health education and equips children with basic tennis skills to encourage physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles. Organized and hosted by Alabama A&M University's Department of Health Science and Human Performance, in collaboration with the City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation, the majority of participants come from these local areas. Tennis, traditionally an elite sport, has often been inaccessible to individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds. In line with the USTA’s mission to diversify tennis, the program targets children from low socio-economic statuses and communities where tennis is not commonly played. The summer camp runs from June to July, and this year, 50 children are expected to attend. The camp aims to help children achieve the CDC-recommended 60 min.
